Public seminar on “Mathematics and Music Learning for Young Children”.

What are the more effective approaches to build children’s understanding of key mathematical concepts, skills and strategies? What are children’s most preferred musical activity?

The Hong Kong Chapter of Pacific Early Childhood Education Research Association (PECERA) organized a seminar on “Mathematics and Music Learning for Young Children” on February 5, 2010. Associate Prof. Romina Jamieson-Proctor, Associate Director of Education at the University of Southern Queensland Fraser Coast campus delivered an address on “Teaching Mathematics in Early Childhood Using a Language Approach”. Dr. Bonnie Yim, Lecturer of Early Childhood Education at the University of Southern Queensland, talked about “Children’s Preferences for Group Musical Activities in Child Care Centres: A Cross-cultural Study”. Together with around 130 ECE practitioners and parents, they looked into these interesting subjects on children’s learning and the implications of these findings for curriculum planning and design.
