Public seminar on “Building Sustainability into Design Education Curriculum”.

The Hong Kong Chapter of the Pacific Early Childhood Education Research Association (PECERA) organized a seminar on “Building Sustainability in Design Education Curriculum” on Apr 16, 2012. The concept of sustainability is growing and it is associated with education at all levels in a diversity of disciplines. It is beneficial to instill sustainability thinking in Early Childhood Education. We were honored to have Dr. Lam Yan Yan from the Hong Kong Design Institute shared with us on this topic, with introduction to an innovative curriculum framework in Design, 3ARE, which also applies in Early Childhood Education.

Dr. Lam Yan Yan is an Executive Committee Member of PECERA (HK), and she is Head of the Design Foundation Studies Department of The Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI). She is a designer, illustrator and ceramic artist with a mission to promote design, art and sustainability education. As the Chairperson of the Sustainable Design Task Force and the Deputy-Chairperson of the Curriculum Development Team of HKDI, Dr. Lam integrates design sensibility with a yearning to create a flexible, fun and contemporary curriculum for design learners, trainers and professionals.
